Three charged with drug possession after driver evades arrest

Three people have been arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety for possession of methamphetamine after they were involved in a police chase and pursuit in Texas.

The Texas trooper claims that he tried to pull over a vehicle for speeding. Instead of pulling over, the trooper said that the vehicle drove off and ended up stopping a few minutes later. All three passengers were arrested once the trooper arrived at the scene where the vehicle stopped.

The trooper said that they found 31 grams of methamphetamine and 16 grams of marijuana in the vehicle. The two passengers were charged with possession of marijuana and were later released on bond. The driver was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest. The driver was placed in jail and held on a $22,000 bond.

Drug possession charges are very serious. This case is an example of the way police officers in Texas may be able to search a driver's vehicle if they are pulled over for another offense. All three individuals in the vehicle were charged with drug possession because the drugs were found in the vehicle and not on one person. The driver also faces additional charges because he was the driver and he did not pull over immediately after the police officer tried to stop the vehicle.

Individuals who are facing a drug possession charge should contact a criminal defense attorney as soon as possible to protect their rights and make sure their case is handled appropriately under Texas laws. If police did not have a reasonable cause to search a driver's vehicle, any evidence found in the vehicle may be thrown out, which could mean criminal charges may be dropped. Having a criminal defense attorney is the best way to ensure that an individual's rights are not being violated as well as address any issues that may come up during an investigation and possible trial.
